So...after all these years I am still struggling with understanding "true believers" whose faith and belief never waivers, whether in the Bible, Koran or George W. Bush. Tuesday night I watched that bumbling, arrogant frat boy ignore questions, issues and, what I thought, fundamental human decency, and ramble on about "staying the course" with only vague generalities of what that "course" is; because that "course" certainly isn’t what it was, by his or anyone else’s standards. I read Howard Kurtz and Tom Shales in the Post the morning after but I also listened to NPR’s focus groups of "ordinary" Americans who admired W and his policies and judged his performance as "forceful" and positive. I am starting to think I am a different species than the 50+% who favor this noncredible excuse for a leader, let alone a human being. Perhaps "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" wasn’t fiction after all and the Pod People formed today's Republican Party.

I want to thank my dear old dad for being the first to comment. isn't he good folks? growing up i thought it was a mandatory qualification of a father to know about everything going on in the world and in the press... I thought that every father could tell you which movies were getting good reviews or which new albums were popular (my dad introduced me to Nirvana and Ani Difranco).
